Cornflake Cookies

i used to order Cornflake cookies for chinese new year in the past and fell in love with it eversince. I had been searching all over for recipes that resemble the one i ordered and i stumble upon this one from Jas's blog. These cookies indeed taste nice and crunchy, however it is not the one i am looking for.

225g buttter (room temperature)
100 g castor sugar
1 egg
300g plain flour (sieved)
1 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
medium pack cornflakes (crushed)

1. Cream butter & sugar together until creamy & pale white
2. Add beaten egg & mix well
3. Fold in sieved flour, baking powder & salt to form a soft pastry
4. Roll the dough into small balls and coat them with crushed cornflakes
5. Bake at 180 degree celcius in a preheated oven until brown

I had follow Jas's style and fold in crushed cornflakes into the dough instead of coating them. If you want to have a more crunchier cookies, it's best to bake longer (mine is about 25 mins to 30 mins), otherwise, the cornflakes inside the cookie will taste soft.

I had actually half-en the ingredients to test out the recipe first. A yummy crunchy cookie (fill with buttery fragrant) if you are looking for the crunchy type.

Capers + Japanese Drum Show @ ICC

Lunch @ Capers (again)

I was suddenly craving for Japanese food during lunch time & feel like eating at Excapade sushi. After some little bit of negotiation & discussion, we end up in Capers again. Because all JR can think about is Capers. -_-"

Since the promotion is still on.. so..
I was tempted to ask the waitress whether i am eligible to be in the "children" category.. but i guess that don't works huh.

I think we ate a total of 5 types of dishes only.

Fettuccini Carbonara & Lasagne

Japanese Drum Show @ ICC @ 7.30 a.m.

i was quite kiasu, wanting to catch a good seat so we arrived at ICC about 6.40 p.m. like that (right after work and no dinner). Quite a number of people were already there and the door to the hall was still closed. Sigh

When the door opened, lots of kiasu people all "chiong" in to my amazed. Meaning that i am not kiasu enough. We were given a black & white colour "programme book" (actually just some stack of paper stapler together nia) and another sheet of paper for us to write down our comment for the show.

The Performers consists of 3 females & the rest are males.

Ok, the picture quality are not good because i had to off flash, reason being that the audiences were being warned not to take picture as the flash might blind the performers
(but still many people take pictures anyway)
So without flash, i can't take much decent pic.. sigh

The 3 women are really amazing. I was so enchanted by one of them (this picture at the bottom one), she is so... shuai ! so cool, so... wow! i just couldn't take my eyes off her as well as her fast movement at beating the drum. She was also the best looking among all of them. At that moment, i thought i might be a 双性恋 le! Cause i was really deep attracted by her. So after a little bit of talking with Sin Cheah, i realised i was not the only one who feel this way. It just shows that this woman are just bloody amazing. Haha!

Here are the guys

The End where every performers came out to bow to the audiencesand the very very last performance by everyone! This last performance is like the best cause it bring out a lively atmosphere among the audience. The music they played and the dance the female performer did very much reminded me of fairies and elves dancing to cheery tunes XD
Audiences were happily clapping along with the music.

Overall, i think the performance as a whole are nice. i was glad that i took the trouble to drive all the way to ICC to check them out. Whoever said drum show are boring?! It took really skill, effort, stamina & energy to beat the drum for the whole night le!

Kuih Bangkit (KB)

I came across this recipe last week at this blog. It looks easy and so thought i would put it in my Chinese New Year cookies-to-do list hence i had try the recipe today.

It was a nightmare. Ching had made it look so easy plus she even post up a step by step guide but mine still doesn't come out as described in her post. The look of my cookie seems ok but the cookie taste crispy on the outside and somewhat soft inside? I don't have the "melt-in-the-mouth" feel le. Where did i go wrong?! Or is this how it suppose to taste like?

Jas's KB also look ok using the same recipe le...

After following Ching's recipe, i found my dough too dry and i had to add in at least about 80 ml more of the coconut cream...

Anyway, this is the method


2 1/2 cups of Tapioca Flour/Starch
1 tbsp butter, melted
1 egg yolk (from large egg)
1 cup icing sugar
120 ml coconut milk (or coconut cream)
3 pieces pandan leaves (optional)

1. Fried and cook the flour with pandan leaves till soft and fluffy, prepared extra for dusting the table or board. leave to cool
2. sifted cool flour and icing sugar in a big bowl, add in egg yolk, melted butter & coconut milk (cream)
3. Knead the mixture till pliable & then roll the dough out onto lightly floured table & cut out with cookie cutters.
4. Bake in pre-heat oven at 180 degree celcius for 15 mins to 20 mins (can be up to 30 mins depending on the cookie colour).

There, sounds easy right? i don't know where i got wrong lo... But please, don't let what i said stop you from trying the recipe though. It was probably a mistake i make somewhere along the way -_-" or i just didn't grab the baking time right

never been so tired from baking cookies before -_-" Took me roughly 4 hours to do this. Lei shi le!

On a side note, i had lined my baking trap with aluminium tray because i found that using a cookie sheet cause the bottom of my cookie to stick

Student Again~

I went out lunch with those people from the KK trips, Xio Li, Sylvia, Patricia, Daniel & Chan at Food Court there. I ate dim sum.. 5 dim sum dishes for $10. I had tapao 2 egg tarts for my brother who is a big egg tart freak. 2 pieces cost $1.80. According to my brother, taste like raw egg and kid of special like that.

i did not bring fried rice or fried bee hoon or watever for lunch, so i ajak Jia Ren and Patrina go eat Nasi Katok at Kiulap there (the one call what Nasi Katok 24 hours Mama at SKH there le)

Remember when this Nasi katok shop first open, its just a small stall somewhere in front of SKH. Mana tahu, suddenly one day move into the same row as SKH and have their own shop.
When they first opened, their rice portion was much bigger and chicken was also bigger. Sigh... 2 persons can eat one packet le. Now, 1 person 1 packet also not enough. But then Nasi Katok is quite oily de la, not recommeded for people who scare of fat. I am afraid of gaining weight also so i don't usually eat Nasi Katok unless i crave for it.

Talking about craving, i used to crave for Japanese food almost all the times (love the Haru Maki, tamago yaki at Excapade), but i haven't have that craving feeling for a long time already. Probably ate too much Japanese food during December.

Today, i mean tonight was the first day of my year 3 Japanese class.
Venue: CES
Time: 6:45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m.

My kid brother had asked me to help him buy a shampoo conditioner before my class so i went to Utama Grand for a while so i was not able to go the class earlier. But i wasn't worry about first day of class have to go fight for seat or what because i had been sitting at the same seat for 2 years already. While browsing at UG, i bought these:-

Cute toy cookie cutters. I think i can use it to cut cookie dough even though it's under the toy category

so i arrived at class about 6.45 p.m. To my surprised, i found some idiot sitting in my chair.

Sin Cheah and her brother was sitting at their usual seat, next to Sin Cheah suppose to be Pei Hwan and next to Hwan suppose to be me.

So got these baka, don't know why, whole class so many seats, pian pian want to sit at my place, unless she is blind, she should have seen me sitting at the same old place with the gals for more than 2 years. Most people had resumed in their old seat what. Bloody baka, dare to sit at my comfortable old chair. So i told myself, next week, i am going to go to the class earlier and bring something to read (to kill time). =/

Anyway, first day back to class. Sensei (teacher) mostly do revised those we learnt last year. Feel blur and lag. Well, sensei told us that for the past 2 years, we had been learning the Japanese polite forms. Starting this year, we will be learning those plain form (language) that is used between close friends or what...

*scratch scratch head* hope i can survive this year.

Chunky Chocolate Frozen Cheesecake

My aunt asked me to make a cheesecake for her yesterday so i decided to make this for her. The original recipe is actually triple chocolate cheesecake (which i used to make) but as i had very limited ingredients in hand. i just go ahead which what i can find. Hehe. The result aren't too bad.

125g coffee marie biscuits
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
60g butter, melted

1/4 cup water
1 tbsp gelatine (had replace with jelly powder)
375g cream cheese
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup caster sugar
200g dark chocolate, melted
1 cup cream, whipped

1. Place biscuits in a food processor bowl and process for 30 secs or until finely crushed. Add cinnamon and butter & mix well. Press into a springform cake tin lined with foil. Refrigerate 20 mins or until firm.
2. Stir gelatine (jelly) in water until dissolved.
3. Beat cream cheese until softened. & then add milk & sugar, beat until combined.
4. Fold in melted dark chocolate & gelatine (jelly) & whipped cream.
5. Refrigerate for 3 hours or until set.

There, easy right? =P
you might want to add in a little lemon juice & little bit of shredded lemon skin.

Melting Moments

I was on the hunt for cookies recipes for the coming Chinese New Year ("CNY") next month and is really inspire by Cadenze to bake melting moments.

So i went in search of this recipe which was say to be from Donna Hay's . There is actually another recipe in Cadenze's blog so i am going to try the other recipe soon to find out which one am i going to bake for CNY. =P

These cookies texture are really soft and crumbly. If you press it too hard, it will collapse. It's really fragile and melt in the mouth!

It actually took me less than 30 mins to mix everything up and have them inside the oven in a jiffy.

175g butter
1/4 cup icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup plain flour
1/4 cup cornflour

1. Preheat oven to 180 degree celcius
2. Beat butter, icing sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy
3. Stir in sifted flour and cornflour. Mix really well
4. Pipe the mixture into a piping bag and pipe out about 1 inch around into a baking tray lined with greased proof paper.
5. Bake for 12 to 14 mins.

My KK trip during new year eve 2006

posting my KK trip now. It's been, erm, about 2 weeks delay?!

These are the people (including me) who went on the trip together.

This is how we went to KK

Day 1

Upon reaching KK, we check into Tang Dynasty hotel and as everyone was hungry, we cin cai find place to eat at the food court.
Everyone ordered clay pot rice. I ordered chicken, i think most of them ordered the

For Dinner, we ate at Kenny Rogers

That set cost roughly about RM$15+ including muffins.

At night, we went on a virgin visit to the pub
(roughly about 10 to 15 mins walk away from our hotel)
The place was not bad. Spacey and got live band singing

Day 2 - New Year Eve 06

We check out of Tang Dynasty and moved into the Marina Court Apartment which is closer to BED, Centrepoint, Warison Square etc
Marina Court cost about RM300 per night

Inside the Apartment:-

The kitchen was fully equipped with plates, wok, knife, fork, spoons etc

At about 9 p.m., we went to a Seafood Restaurant for dinner
According to them, they serve no pork here. wow

What we Ordered...

These 5 dishes cost about RM300+ including drinks and taxes

Then we went to Cocoon roughly at around 11 p.m. for New Year Eve party

i was having gastric pain so i did not drink or party except sit there and look at people
(more like trying to "look" cause it's really dark inside)
Me & the guys actually went back to the apartment earlier (at around 1 + a.m. kwa)

Sylvia won a hamper during the lucky draw at the Cocoon but most of the items are actually cheap stuff lo..

Day 3 - Happy New Year 2007!!

Most of the shops here sell branded goods. =P

Most of us are quite broke on our last day in KK so we thought we might as well make full use of the apartment utilities (i.e. used their kitchen, wok, forks, knifes etc) & cook ourselves some cheap and simple dinner i.e. Instant noodles. hehe

Sylvia & Sharlene invites some of their friends from SKS who also stayed at the same apartment

Most of them return to their own apartment and later on one of them came back to play chor dai di with these people in the pics above here.

Day 3 - Returning to Brunei

The night before, everyone had agreed to wake up at 5 a.m. because our flight leave at 7+ a.m. But in the end, the gals wake up after 5.30 a.m. and the guys, i have no idea what time they woke up but i found them sitting on the sofa, dressed (except Jon who fly using a different flight and time) and watching TV when i wake up at 5.30 a.m.!!

i did not buy any clothes or accessories during this trip cause i plan to go somewhere sometime in February and due to my car insurance & road tax expiring this month, i had to be careful on my spending. Hehe.
So i only bought a few novels, cookbooks. chocolates and vodka cruiser lo...
Chocolates and vodka are last minute bought at the Labuan ferry terminal de. End up owing people money somemore. Sigh
Long time didn't buy chinese novels. =P

Spend most of time in the bookshop browsing at the books. so syok, no one (like my parents) to complaint about how slow i am in the bookstore. XD
